Explosives experts from the State Criminal Police Office are searching the area around the site of the explosion.

Police completely closed the train station in the southern German city of Augsburg on Wednesday morning after a suspicious object exploded and another suspicious object was found nearby.

The first unidentified object exploded in a building passageway, officials said.

Several people sustained minor injuries due to the loud sound of the explosion. Police said that a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy were being treated for acoustic trauma.

Some nearby windows were also blown out.

Explosives experts from the Bavarian state criminal police office were investigating at the scene.

Road traffic and public transportation in the vicinity of the station were also disrupted, police said on X.

"Attention: Evacuation! Please leave the station immediately via the Post Tunnel!" reads a message on a monitor at Augsburg Central Station in Augsburg, 2 September, 2026

Further information on the blast and the second suspicious object, which did not explode, was not immediately available.

Augsburg is a city of 308,000 residents in Bavaria, about 78 kilometres northwest of Munich.

Explosives experts from the State Criminal Police Office are searching the area around the site of the explosion.

A police probe is ongoing.
